You asshats need to start putting what book your spoiler is for when tagging a book spoiler, for goodness sake. I had to learn to use the report button because of this thread. It was traumatic!
Loved the episode. I was waiting for that Arya scene for so long. BJ insists she was too calm, but I think that's kind of the point--Arya becomes so quickly comfortable with killing.
I love every single character.
You really should've slapped him. WTF.
Her brother didn't become insane.
She has the dragons.
Oo, I didn't think of that. They twisted on us!
Don't worry, I'll still give you plenty of trout for not liking Dany.
so everybody starts hating danny becaus she didnt had a spectaculair start in this season? thats smurfed up
http://d24w6bsrhbeh9d.cloudfront.net...dVN4D_460s.jpg
I loved Daenerys in Season 1. At first she was timid, shy, and uncertain. And after being gifted with three dragon eggs, a massive army and the sexiest man in history, the power started to go to her head. But it's undeniable that in the first season she had some powerful character development. Perhaps the best development of any other character in that one season. It's not the same now though. Everybody else keeps ascending in development. Dany is playing a game with slaves. Trying to learn how to rule. And that's supposed to be interesting, but she is horrible at ruling. Fact is, she hasn't made any good decisions at all. Continues to make mistake after mistake.
And oh, she killed Khal Drogo. Twice. Seriously, screw her. But I love Ser Jorah as much as everybody else. He's just not enough to have me tolerate Dany's bulltrout. She's just a joke. To take from Season 2, in the very first episode she said "NO ONE WILL TAKE MY DRAGONS!!!!" And what happens? Exactly that. She can't do anything right, I'm sorry.
Don't be silly and think people don't like her because the start of the season has been slow. I've been waiting 3 years for her to do something, but I'm continuously disappointed. And since I'm concurrent with the books, I know what happens with her, so that absolutely plays a part with how I feel about her. Not because this season hasn't been exciting for her. :/ Dany chapters in ADWD are about as entertaining as Catelyn chapters.
I liked her a lot in season one as well. That ending...my god. It was amazing. I was rooting for her so hard. But then she...kind of just wanders around.
I will say, she freed all those slaves. That's not doing NOTHING. If/when she buggers off to Westeros, she's going to have a lot of people who love her and are willing to die for her, even if they're not soldiers. So that's something to consider.
EDIT: I just want to say, after the ending of season 3, I have more positive feelings towards her. I just wish Emilia Clarke had more than one I AM BEING SERIOUS STRONG AND POWERFUL RIGHT NOW voice. There's more than one way to deliver a line in a serious way.
Book Dany is the worst. Season/Book one she is of course fantastic. In Season Two they had to make up some jibber jabber about her dragons being stolen because otherwise bugger all happened. Incidentally in the books, and I was not best pleased they left it out and I'm glad I can mention it now, she actually sees a foretelling of the Red Wedding in that tower. Not that it meant anything to her (or indeed the readers unless they were re-reading!) but I thought it was an awesome detail and they should've put it in. Season Three Dany was pretty decent though.
She's just such a frustrating character. STOP ARSING ABOUT IN GOD KNOWS WHERE AND START KICKING BUTT IN WESTEROS WITH DRAGONS GOD DAMNIT
George seems to enjoy dragging things out for as long as he possibly can, and then drag things out even further. It makes me wonder if he ever wrote for soaps on TV.
but she need MORE ARMY
and the dragons are not big enough! :D
If Theon, of all people, was able to capture Winterfell with just 12 men... 12,000 unsullied should be enough!
yeah, but its not only Winterfell she wants.. she wants it all!
Ahahaha The Hound is the new spokesperson for KFC xDD
I thought it was 8,000 unsullied. Still a large amount but I have no idea how big the opposing armies are, though the dragons could take care of the rest once grown. Though if there's one thing the series has proven, you can never lose a single battle and still lose the war.
8000 unsullied.
4000 more who were training to be unsullied she took.
2000 second sons.
Freed slaves.
There were less than 8000 Lannister men fighting at the Battle for King's Landing.
I agree with everyone else. Season 1 she was one of the best. Now there's just no development and she's boring.
I can see the argument that she's boring. I don't think she is, but I understand why people might think that. But I will never understand those who actively dislike her. It doesn't compute for me.
Kinda related: I went searching for the first book at the library the other day and after looking for them everywhere I was told they were in the science fiction section.
I thought that was funny.
how is that scifi?
its fi but not sci!
Haha some of these are perfect:

Spoilers/Speculation a Dance with Dragons It's been a while since I read ADWD but at the end she landed with Drogon in front of a Dothraki army, coupled with the fact that Aegon is poised to take the throne, I think they plan to reunite Daeny (with the Kahl and his army at the end of Dance) and Aegon and then start the war with the White Walkers. Of course knowing George, he could just as easily kill off Daeny and Drogon.
I think Daenys problem is in the book she is only a child, not yet used to rule and unable to split her army up due to lack of trustworthy men and women she can leave behind to work as a governor for the places she has conquered... I really don't she what she could do to solve this. Having Selmy by her side she could effectively rule over Westeros, and would certainly be able to rule to the same degree as Joffery can... once they see the dragons, half the world would follow her, but now Season 4 spoilers unairedshe really needs to learn how to rule, being so young, she really needs to stay in Mereen for this season to learn to govern before she can go back to Westeros... I mean there is only so much advice one man can give her, coupled with the fact that she needs to let her dragons grow.
That was a good opener! I like Oberyn and the new Daario
(SPOILER)GRRM said throughout interviews that there will be a second dance of the dragons, so I'm thinking her and Aegon will fight. I also think Tyrion basically played him by telling him to go take Westeros now, and possibly that he's playing them against eachother and still working to further his family. Sure he hates Cersei and Jaime but I think Tyrion will show he's a Lannister through and through.
Yeah, sci-fi/fantasy being lumped together is pretty par for the course.
Anyways House Targaryen best house. If Dany doesn't end up on the Iron Throne by the end of this thing then the whole series will have been a waste :colbert:
NO! KING RICKON! :mad2:
King Samwell Tarly.
King Hodor or bust :colbert:
My current prediction is massive ADWD spoiler, seriously don't click if you haven't read the bookKing Aegon, but we could turn out to see an even more shocking curveball :monster: I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Margaery ends up on the throne either at this rate :monster:
It's because they're both considered "escapist fiction." Horror is occasionally included alongside the other two. In libraries or book stores it's usually not far away.
It wasn't already?
Can you imagine the smurfing riot that would induce if it were canceled mid-show?
Those who doubt lack faith in the... whatever god that is currently relevant.
No, King Rickon. Hodor as his Hand, and Pod as his head of the Kingsguard.
Speculative fiction is the commonly used name and you're right that Horror is a very close relative. I like works that incorporate all three, like Gene Wolf's classic Book of the New Sun series.
If there ever was a dead man walking in ASoIaF it's (SPOILER)Aegon/Faegon. He's either going down in a) the capture of Storm's End, b) greyscale from Jon Connington, or c) if Dany indeed shows up for the second Dance. My pick for the Iron Throne is Sansa, it would be a fitting implementation of the "bittersweet endings" GRRM has promised, for the girl who dreamed of being Queen in the first book
I've always understood "speculative fiction" as being simply another, more pretentious term for science fiction alone. I know escapist fiction is often considered derogatory, but includes fantasy and occasionally horror.
Also, props for the Gene Wolfe appreciation.
SO ratings time.
At a premiere high, the first episode racked in 6.64 million views. Now when you consider the fact that this is the paid television you're dealing with, that's ridiculous. Count in all the pirating, the thing probably had double that.
Between HBO Go, the premiere, and the repeats, it is expected to be around 14 million viewers which is somewhere close to The Sopranos finale, I guess.
Queen sansa, dammit
you people know NOTHING!
ill take Maergery Tyrell as my hand
and perhaps Danny as my Queensguard :3
girlpower
Hell yeah, I'll be your hand. For the realm!
Where the smurf are you? Off gallivanting in the woods with a stick? I've been here supporting her and giving her comfort. :colbert:
Me, I've just been going around burning trout, putting leeches on people's dicks, and causing a fair amount of ruckus.
Whoever is king, you have my loyal and unending support. I promise. Trust me. :)
Hodor.
goddammed Arya!
have you learned nothing at all?
Dad trusted littlefinger and look what happened?
we are back at point 0 now that everybody is claiming the throne.. again
Who said anything about trusting him?
Hodor.
Fair skined girls with light colored hair is always good in my book.

Queen Dany? King Rickon? smurf the lot of you....
KING ROBERT!
As a White Walker I guess.
be gratefull Tyrion, if im queen then you will be king, husband
Book spoiler that should have happened last episode but didn'tWhat I want to know is why didn't The Hound die? or take a serious wound? Do you think they plan to keep him alive? This is such a big deviation from the book I'm really curious to see how it will pan out.
this thread is getting weird
so did The Hound ಠ_ಠ (refering to season 1)

Don't drag my trainer into this, Sansa. This is between you and me!

In other news: Don't click if you haven't seen last Sunday's episode this is smurfing hilarious!
NDSW btw. Almost forgot to add that.
AFFC spoilerBecause Sandor Clegane isn't dead. It's strongly implied that the gravedigger on the Quiet Isle is him.
Instead of having a thread with spoiler tags why not just make a A Song of Ice and Fire thread?
Book Spoilers, ASoS, AFfC, ADwD - Don't read if you haven't read all books
Ok so, I'm guessing Season 4 will go a bit like: Ep 2, The PW. Ep 3-6, Tyrions arrest, Sansa's escape, Ygrittes death, the Hounds "death". Dany doing some stuff with her dragons. Ep 7-8, Littlefinger kills Lysa, Red Viper v The Mountain, Stannis arriving at the wall. Ep 9 Tywin gets it Ep 10 UnCat!
Pretty packed season if it goes like that. I hope it does, because it will be one hell of a season!
I'm interested to see how they do the PW. With all the theories on the internet around who actually poisoned Joff, I hope the show make it clear who the culprits were to bring an end to all the speculation!
I'm guessing the reason Martin released the chapter re Arya was because it was happening in the show and he wanted it out there before it was aired.
I don't think Aegon will win the IT ultimately, or at least I hope not! Personally, I would be really disappointed for somebody who didn't even feature (except for a few mentions) until later in the series to win.
With AFfC and ADwD running simultaneously, I'm guessing these will take up the majority of Seasons 5-6 to give Martin time to get at least one of the books out, but I'm interested to see how the show does it, as these books are so much slower & not a massive amount actually happens.
Edit: DAMMIT. Do I really have to move threads now? :(
Well, most of the book spoilers are still in relation to the show. If you take away the show, there's not all that much new to say about ASoIaF (unless someone actively comes up with topics about it). I suppose as long as it's made clear that show discussion that involves book spoilers goes in that thread, though, it might work.
Omg. I hope so much that season 4 is how you laid it out. If it is, this will be the best season yet.
I read the other day that Maisie Williams said in an interview that fans of the books were going to be confused this season since the writers are deviating from them. This would explain the change in a certain scene some of you guys have already addressed after Sunday's show. The words that captured my attention the most are key plot twists.
I'll gladly take confusion, as a lot of their previous deviations have been bewildering and a tad cringe-worthy.
I really hope they keep the main parts of the story. If this season follows the books it would hands down be the best so far!
This explains why Book Spoiler deviationThe Hound didn't get stabbed during the fight scene with the chickens
I expect they are secretly preparing to separate the books from the show due to Georges reputation for slow releasing of his previous works. Not that I am happy about it but they have to do something.
They know who ends up in the Iron Throne at the end too. Makes me wonder if the TV show will end up spoiling the end of the books if George doesn't get them published by then.
He told them that in case he dies before he completes the series; it'll be a way for fans to still get their conclusion.
It would probably have to take a hiatus. I'm sure they're contractually obligated to keep to secrecy.
:roll2
I barely knew any of them and I found them interesting.
ppl name theire babies Khaleesi? really? :roll2
this one makes me curious though:
''The original pilot of the show has never been aired.''
this would make a nice signature, if you cut the bodem out :D
https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...36761570_n.jpg
I learned a lot of stuff from that as well! :)
They would lose far too much money going on hiatus. Martin told the creators of the show what the ending was in case he cannot get the last book out before they get to it. There is a high possibility that the show will reveal the ending before the book is released and everyone knew this getting into it.
Previous deviations haven't been cringe-worthy! Previous deviations have been awesome! Yeah, you cringe at Ros's murder, but it was fantastic. And all the Tywin/Arya scenes were lovely. The Theon torture was cringe-worthy, though they weren't really a deviation so much as an addition.
Unfortunately, it seems like it's a lock at this point. When the first season ended and they announced A Dance With Dragons coming out that summer, a lot of people thought he was taking his output more seriously. His editor even said he would be back to "a book every 2 years" schedule now that he took care of the Feast/Dance arc. But now it's looking more like the 5+ year trend is continuing. Personally, I think the backtracking on where to take the story after Storm broke it and I would not be surprised if he never finishes the books.
Martin suggested they could do an interim prequel series or a mid season hiatus but I'm not sure how realistic that is:
George R.R. Martin has a shifty plan to keep HBO?s Game Of Thrones from catching up to him · Newswire · The A.V. Club
(SPOILER)I preferred the Robb's wife line they conjured up for the show vs. the one in the book. But I'm also only just beginning the fourth book, so I don't know if it extends any further or has any other purposes not yet revealed.
Now that up made us goaty, let's take a step back, pour some whiskey and sip away to this smooth jazz rendition of the introductory scene of game of thrones.
Shortest AMA in Reddit history.
I don't think anyone has mentioned the rather humorous scene with Brienne and her dress.
The opening episode was pretty good, but it's clear that it's primary aim was to set the scene and remind us all of last season. Which leads me to a small question: where did we leave Stannis last season? I'm having difficulty remembering his storyline from last season. I could go over it on-line, but I can't be bothered.
He got a message from the Wall saying to come and bring his army because the Whitewalkers were coming.
This is fascinating. While it's about Sunday's episode, I don't think there are any major spoilers in it.

(SPOILER)Didn't expect them to move this fast when it comes to the PW but I'm super excited about it.
These are the most beautiful episode descriptions ever.
(SPOILER)I am so smurfing psyched about tomorrow. Even more psyched than I was initially if that's possible.
The book is going to cover events in book four and book five simultaneously to follow the series' internal chronology rather than the order events are revealed, so you've really got a lot of reading to catch up on if you want to stay ahead of the series (although I guess you can read the beginnings of both books simultaneously). It was always established that the end of book three would only take up part of season four, though.
I thought all of season four was just going to follow the second half of book three?
Nope, there's not enough of book three left for them to spread the whole thing out for season four. They did about two-thirds of book three in season three.
Yes, I'm aware of all of that. I just didn't realize it would be happening so quickly.
I think I'll be able to stay atleast a little ahead. And if I can't, I'm certainly not bound to watching the show before I finish with the books :jess:
Additionally, I've been watching season one again and I've realized just how much I enjoy Varys' character. He truly is the only impartial party whose concern lies for the realm. Also, I can't think of another time he has broken his cool and raised his voice aside from when he is shouting at Ned in the dungeon to also consider the realm in his dealings. I like him quite a bit.
I had a dream that I met Maisie Williams and we became BFFs.
Best dream ever.
I don't remember if I posted it in this thread or the ASOIAF thread, but I linked a reddit thread that listed parts of the books that matched up with parts of S4E01; it borrowed material from not only ASOS but AFFC, ADWD, and even TWOW. And of course, the writers also added in some of their own things. XD
Long live the king!

He claims another victim. Definitely one of the best Game of Thrones episodes of all time.
(SPOILER)The scene with Reek shaving Ramsay was quite underappreciated as well.
That shade of purple, I wondered how close they were going to get it, was amazing.

Hodor?
I was on the edge of my seat waiting for him to kick the bucket and when it finally happened I was like-- well, um... I'm glad he's dead but it didn't feel as satisfying as I thought it'd be.
The Arya in me wished he would have suffered more.
Well, it was a good run. Too bad he choked on his final speech.
I feel bad for whatever wedding Balon Greyjoy attends next.
He died in in pain and anguish. S'all good. Cersei is going to go crazy now 0_0
Also I dont get why tyrion doesnt just tell Shae, "hey my family knows you're here, im not afraid of them but they will kill you just to spite me and i dont want you to get hurt."
Didn't work the first thousand times.Quote:
Also I dont get why tyrion doesnt just tell Shae, "hey my family knows you're here, im not afraid of them but they will kill you just to spite me and i dont want you to get hurt."
I knew not to expect it but I'm still disapointed there was no pig/dog riding like in the book.
^ And no Penny either. :( Not that that doesn't surprise me. Book readers have to think about how different Potter films are from their respective books, and then realize that the show can't do EVERY little touch that is in the books. Otherwise we'd have 5 episodes of just traveling and eating food. Doubtful anybody would be a fan of the show then, eh? You just have to respect the little things that the show DOES include from the books.
I just like watching things that are hard to film. The wedding feast didnt even feel as extravagant as Tyrion's wedding asside from maybe the giant lion head
i agree, the wedding should have been bigger! it is the kings marriage after all.
i loved how the room went silent when joffrey went all joffrey and even his lovely bride didnt agree and started distracting everytime to keep it happy.
im really curious what will happen to Sansa, will she escape this time? will the Fool bring her to safety?
i am somewhat convinced that the Oberyn poisoned him :o he did mention that the Lannisters werent the only ones who payed theire debtd. and he did not hide that he was after a vengeance.
im not sure if im glad or sad that Joffrey is dead. i will definitly miss getting agitated about his cockyness.
im so exited!
I wonder how many people have google searched who the culprit is. I imagine it won't be as dramatic as it should, because the TV audience isn't used to such an open question (and obvious framing).
Tyrion did it? With every single eye watching him? Bitch please.
indeed, he poured joffrey the whine, but he didnt put the wine in the bottle.
Tyrion would would be way more clever then that.
naturally Cersei think its him.. even if she didnt think so she still would accuse him since she has been looking for a reason to get rid of him for seasons!
on the sidenote what ive always wondered is: why did Tywin name the imp after himself? (more or les, or his father perhaps) and not jaime?
would make alot more sense to me if Tyrion was named Jaime, and Jaime Tyrion
Edit: Buzzfeed has a giant article up on exactly who did it (complete with incriminating screenshots) so I don't know if it's a surprise at this point
Those were my exact words when it happened.
My exact words.
I do know who done it, but even so it's pretty obvious Tyrion wasn't responsible. He didn't have the chance and he's far too clever to do it in public in front of everyone with the murder weapon in his hand. He would also know that doing it that way might throw some people off for that exact reason - but some people either wouldn't care (like Cersei) or would be smart enough to see through the double-bluff (like Tywin).
e; I've told Pike she has until our next visit to learn how to contort herself like that one chick was doing.
well Arya, you can scrap that one of your list now
Agreed, less talking more destroying plz.Quote:
She's just such a frustrating character. STOP ARSING ABOUT IN GOD KNOWS WHERE AND START KICKING BUTT IN WESTEROS WITH DRAGONS GOD DAMNIT
The whole episode last night I was contemplating who was worse: Joffrey or his mother. Now I know it's his mother.
That was a satisfying episode.
It better be after that much teasing. Even Shae would have thought it was unreasonable to tease and tantalize like that. :stare:
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
That's fantastic.
That's great xDDD
Also man I hope Jack Gleeson gets some awards, he played Joffrey perfectly, I can't remember the last time a character on TV was so universally hated and people so universally enjoyed hating them.
CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW THE MIDGET RENLY WAS RIDING LORAS THO
The thing that sucks about this being resolved in the books is that theres no use speculating about it in this thread because you might stumble upon a spoiler.
This was my theory when I read the book, I wont tell you if it's right or notI thought it was Bran activating his warg powers to become a dove, eating some poison and regurgitating it while he was in the pie.
The look on Olenna's face was just complete disgust with the event. I think she's happy now though :)
I guess no one is going to talk about the fact that Jaime clenched his fake hand while running toward Joffery, is demonstrated in this:

PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE~
I'm building a powerpoint presentation for an awards ceremony tomorrow, and each of our employees were instructed to send in a photo. I was instructed to choose photos for those people who did not send in photos, and explictly instructed to use outlandish, funny photos of famous people. My boss, the senior VP, specifically instructed me to pair one person with a Lady Gaga in the Kermit the Frog dress photo, so I guess we're going balls out for this.
For one round of awards, there are three ladies up, none of which provided me any photos. I deemed them Cersei Lannister, Margaery Tyrell, and Danaerys Targaryen. I am rather proud of myself and I hope some people "get it" :jess: (I am not sure how many of them watch Game of Thrones, but there ought to atleast be a few in over a hundred attendees).
also I haven't seen the latest episode and I've been shielding my eyes from this thread all day D:
I didn't see anyone post the screenshots of how Joffrey was murdered, so here it is. Technically not a spoiler since it's all screenshots that already happened, but I imagine a future episode will tell the audience more clearly in a future episode.
that is interesting :o
btw, i just started the 2nd book, in the beginning and old maester at Dragonstone tried to poison Mellisandre with small crystals called Strangler Seeds, would it be the same?:O

Entertainment Weekly has interviews with Jack Gleeson, Benioff & Weiss, and George R. R. Martin about Sunday's episode.
Thanks for posting that, Shlup! I knew how it happened because of the book, but I missed how subtle it was. Denmark read on reddit about that, but I hadn't seen it first-hand! :)

Majestic as smurf.
I fear for her life, now.
Side note: If I'm remembering correctly, Jaime doesn't return to King's Landing in the books until just after the wedding, so that interaction with Brienne and Cersei, as well as Jaime's likely guilt over being unable to save yet another king, is new.
This is correct in the bookhe actually sees Cersei again for the first time in Baelor's Sept, like, weeping over Joffrey's dead body and then they bang on the church floor.
Ok, after watching all the theories and rewatching the wedding for a 4th time, I have come up with some very subtle hints that Lady Olenna shares with Tywin alluding to the plot she is hatching about Jofferys assassination.
"Your heart felt thank you is its own reward, I would imagine I'll be hearing it again before long."
Do you think she could be alluding to the fact that he should be thankful for removing a costly mistake that is Joffery from the throne?
Wars are expencive, the iron bank will have its due how they love to remind to everyone, almost as much as you lannisters with your debts.
Could she mean this as "You took Sansa and my Grandson, I'm going to takes yours as payment."
It's very subtle, but it's pure genius.
Yeah, Olenna is my guess (have not read the book). It would seem unlikely that she would sabotage the wedding she paid for but that's the genius of it. She sees Joffrey as a monster and figures with him dead they can just marry Margery to King Trommen. He's underage too so that would make Margery the Queen Regent. Olenna would make a pretty great Hand actually. She is one of the best characters of the whole series.
My other theory is Sansa since she has the longest list of motives of anyone. Not sure she has the cunning or the means, though.
Reaction videos! They are the best.
Althought the red wedding reactions were awesome.
I hope to see Jack Gleeson's acting future in some sweet, innocent, goodly-hearted gentleman role to mindsmurf the trout out of the masses.
This episode was all sorts of disturbing to me. I couldn't settle after witnessing the beginning with Ramsay. The hunt at the beginning especially, which I was a little confused at first - I didn't realize it was Ramsay and his wenches at first. And then I saw Theon running and I thought they were after him. I saw the girl running and I thought she was laughing or something while she ran, and then it became apparent that she was sobbing and I was so confused by it, but at that point it didn't matter because it was clear they were after her atleast, if not Theon as well. And then witnessing his interactions with Theon and just how utterly shattered Theon has become. He's a shadow of his old self, past the point of being broken. I haven't been fond of or cared about Theon at all up until this point, but it really put a knife in my heart. I suppose that's some good storytelling, though.
Hot damn Bran is getting bigger! Good lord, he'll be fully grown before the show is over.
Book spoiler and possible future episode spoiler about Shae Ehhhhh I'm not loving this manufactured tale with her. I loved the book because what's to come with the trial and Tywin was so goddamn shocking because it seemed like she loved him this whole time. I don't know why the show would force a reason into it, if they choose to follow the book with the rest of her behaviors. It was a damn good mindsmurf for me, and they should have let it be and let her betray him at court and after instead.
The other part of the episode that smurfing disturbed me was Joffrey's face as he was dying. That was smurfing mortifying. Between that, the little people humiliation, and the Ramsay bits, this episode has my stomach in an uncomfortable knot.
I am finding amusement in the theories flying around in this thread about who the culprit is. :hyper:
Pretty good episode, imo. Better than the premiere, that's for damn sure. And:
The crowd went wild, and someone hollered out asking where the dragons were. Totally satisfying.
hahaha awesome. glad it went well!
Glad the power point went well!
I'm going to have to agree on the points your brought up. I felt bad for Theon while watching this episode, and Joffrey's death scene disturbed me a bit. Unfortunately, I think I've read that Jack Gleeson is done with acting after Game of Thrones. He wants to move on to other things. It's kind of a shame just because you can tell he has some serious acting skills.
I do kind of feel for Joffrey after thinking about him a bit since his death. Part of the problem is that he was simply way too young to be king. He's always kind of been a little trout from what I remember of the show and the little I've read in the books, but I've worked with a lot of kids that are the same age he's supposed to be who would probably be pretty similar if they were suddenly made a king in that kind of world. This is never more clear at the childish bullying he was doing to Tyrion just before his death. He was a spoiled, stuck up brat who felt invincible, like a lot of teenagers are. With this in mind, I do feel bad for him in a lot of ways, and his death wasn't something I really rejoiced over despite the terrible things he had done. I also kind of ... admire is probably the wrong word, but I found him interesting. He was a terrible human being, but he was pretty fearless even with regards to his mother and Tywin. He did what he wanted while the rest of the family kind of tiptoes around each other.
Suggest-a-set..?
While Joffrey's death was already pretty mortifying, I kind of wish GRRM (who wrote the episode) went the extra mile of ASOS detailhaving him claw at his throat.
Also, even though he's a little trout that a lot of us wished death upon from the beginning, I found kind of unsettling, in the books, the fact that he was still just a kid... 13 y.o. or something. That and the "deaths" of Bran and Rickon in S2/ACOK were pretty horrifying.
By the way, here is /r/ASOIAF's Book-to-TV chart for S04E02. Possible spoilers through ADWD.
Going into season four with the trailers I thought Sansa was going to be the one to poison Joffrey, but her character doesn't seem to have experienced enough growth yet to get to that point. I wasn't expecting a mystery to come out of it either. I saw Joffrey choking and Sansa staring with that half sad, half angry look in my mind.
I'm leaning towards Olenna too simply because of her exchange with Sansa before the death. Joffrey's death was pretty brutal given how young the character was.
George R. R. Martin: murderer of men, women and children.
He said he's retiring. :(
Book and probably future episode spoilerYeah, she was kind of an empty character in the books, but now having her be this developed in the show really spoils the shock of that moment with Tywin. I really didn't see it coming!
That face was way more intense than I imagined when reading it. Totally disturbing. I made BJ put on an episode of Adventure Time before I'd go to sleep.
I love non-readers!
Also he did that on several occasions.
Yeah, the beauty of that scene in the book was that, in that moment, he was just a little boy and she was just a mother holding her dying son. I'm not sure they were able to really convey that as well as I would've liked in the show.
no, becaus she is underaged herself too, and without Joffrey (and offspring) this marriage of a view hours means nothing.
she is not queen regent becaus she is not a Lannister from her own family.
the throne would now go to tommen with Cersei back as Queen regent
Nathalie Dormers 3rd attempt to be THE queen.. failled xD
yes i said 3rd
Renly and then joffery, that's two.
Also Margery is older than joffery and well above age. She's not underaged at all.
yes i said 3.. becaus Nathalie Dormer also failed as Queen Anne Boleyn in The Tudors.. she got her head chopped off
bad words

Spoilered your trout. ~Shorty
But if Maergery married Tommen, she would be Queen Regent. :)
One child dies hours after marrying Margaery, so we want to marry another to her? If I were Cersei, I wouldn't go for it. Then again, the Tyrells are there and there were all these preparations to bring the houses together, so maybe Tywin will push for it anyway, I don't know.
I'm almost certain that is what Tywin would push for. It achieves the same end and avoids more open war.
Well, but Cersei and Loras are already to be wed, so that would achieve the same thing.
Except they'd still need to marry off the King/King Tommen.
Yeah, tommen is the prize now, though the lawful monarch has always been Dany or if not her then Stannis.
I said it in the other thread: I'd still rather see Dany on the Iron Throne than Stannis.
Cersei has to mary Loras so when the father dies Loras gets Highgarden, and through marriage it also falls in the hands of the Lannisters.
and the throne depends on how you look at it.
danny becaus it was her family who's throne got taken.
or Stannis, becaus he is Roberts heir becaus Cersei's kids are bastards
smurf stannis
