You can sync films, podcasts and pretty much anything else the ipod will support via Winamp. It's a fairly good alternative which I use myself.

I just added SharePod to the "good bit of freeware" section as I could not see it included in the list.
SharePod a usefull application that is able to recover and save music stored on an iPod.
Try using a piece of software called Sharepod to copy the music. It has worked perfectly for me in the past and best of all the software is free.
