i think the reason for the 'clothing' is that the whole game is based on change. so the first way to change the inside...is to change to outside. or so what my maginzine said;)

I personally like the idea of only have 3 characters though out the whole game. Now you dont' have to make sure that everyone is evenly leveled and don't have to make the hard choice of picking...
