I don't think people truly realize the usefullness of Regen. Sure, its high MP cost can be sort of crippling, but opposed to hammering away with Cura or a Hi-Potion every turn, it's a lot cheaper.

The easiest way to get NE equipment is to fight Geosgaeno at Baaj. Be sure to equip Tidus, Wakka, and Rikku with element-strike weapons. It may take you a few tries (it did for me) but a lot of that...
