The extra magic and physical attacks of the RM are nice, but what I found really makes them shine is the fact they can cast Haste. Hasting two fighters for boss fights increases your damage output...

After each level-up, the black-belts absorb gets set to its level. So if you e.g. level from 15 to 16, the absorb gets set to 16. You can view it in the status screen and exit to fix.

FF 1 was IMO better than DQ 1. However, DQ 3 is the single best RPG on the NES.

All that being said, where's the love for Phantasy Star? It came out the same year as the original final fantasy...
