Default A Song of Ice and Fire Goes to HBO

    Hell yes.

Hopefully, they'll take their time, find good actors, and make this a quality production. With such a fantastic book series, the mere thought of a live-action version is enough to make me drool, and an HBO series will allow (nearly) the entire story to be told without trying to cram thousands of pages into a few movies. Given the quality of HBOs productions, in general, I'm super psyched.

A good book ? Can you give me a summary ? I wrote a fanfic about Fire and Ice last year (pretty awful) so I'm intrigued by the theme.

It is hard to give a short summary. The books are increadibly deep. It is a very good series. A bit violent and err.... well I wouldn't advise reading it to your young children if you are the protective type parent. But they are fine for more mature readers.

Anyways Wiki appears to have a good description of the series so I will quote it here-

In a genre where magic usually takes center stage, this series has a reputation for its limited and subtle use of magic, employing it as an ambiguous and often sinister background force.[2] Finally, the novels do not (presently) center around a climactic clash between "Good" and "Evil;" plot lines have revolved primarily around political infighting and civil war, with only one or two storyline arcs even suggesting the possibility of an external threat.

The novels are narrated from a very strict third person limited omniscient perspective, the chapters alternating between different point of view characters. Martin's treatment of his characters makes them extremely hard to classify: very few can be labeled as "good" or "evil". The author also has a reputation of not being afraid to kill any character, no matter how major.
The plan is to turn each book into a season's worth of episodes. That sounds like a good go for me. Usually time restraints can really hurt a show adapted from a book or a game. But one season for each book should hopefully be enough. Plus HBO should be able to get away with the violence and the like that are in the book.

I have to say Martin Did a superb job of making the violence in the series. Very very well done.

STILL Updating the anime list. . . I didn't think I was that much of an anime freak! I don't even want to consider updating the manga list!

If it's anywhere near the quality embodied by The Sopranos or Band of Brothers (or others, for that matter), I'll be looking forward to it.
