    Default Chemical's Rt

This thread is going to be dedicated to my artwork.

Instead of constantly creating new threads to display current accomplishments etc., I'm simply going to revise this thread with updates, etc.

I understand this is highly unorthodox - but so was washing your hands before operating on someone at one point in time.

    I'll have a general format:

    Title
    Picture
    Date
    Medium
    Size

And I'll only have related images (that is images in a series) in one post; as such there will most likely be a good amount of double posting. Get over it.

    (dates & mediums not included)

This is a collection of doodles, sketches and anything else you'll find in my sketchbooks. Newer ones have new beside them. Some pieces date back to 2003, I'm not about to make an effort to date the images though because as I mention later... my sketchbook work is where all the rough ideas are compiled... I'll end up mixing and matching up ideas into a larger composition or "completed" work.

I really love your hand study. A lot of people have trouble with drawing hands, but I think you got them spot on in basically all of the positions.

The only peice that I dislike at all is the Harlequin spider, because I think the colour (it might just be the medium you used, though), takes away any of the detail that could have been there/or was already there. Also, he only has 6 legs, did you chop the other 2 off?

I would love to see more detail in your Akee Tree, and Flower Study though. They are beautiful, the Akee Tree is my favourite. I think they could be made into some really beautiful work if you continued on with them. Especially if you added colour. Perhaps using watercolour or perhaps digitally, using photoshop, or something.

I really like the concept of the good vs evil, but you have to look closely to distinguish which is which. Perhaps colour would be good here, for example soft, flowing colours on the side of the good and on bright and dark colours on the side of the evil. I don't think it particularly needs colour though, perhaps just more detail.

I like what there is of Old to the bone, I think that Ink was probably the best medium for it. I would love to see it completed, though.

The Listening is my favourite after the hand study. The only thing that gets me about it is that she, and the chair are floating in mid-air. I think Even if you aren't going to draw a background I think that it would look 100% better if you just drew in a few lines and some shadows to make up a floor, and some walls behind her. I think the proportions of her body are pretty much perfect though, I love the detail and the shading - did you get a little bored towards the boots, though?

I can't see the peice from April 2006, though.

I think your work is really good so far, though. I look forward to seeing some more.

Yeah, i really love the observational studies, especially the hands. Alot of people find them hard to do, but the arc & curve of them look very accurate to me. Great job. I'll enjoy seeing more of your work when you post.

they don't load if you use them as images or at least they didn't for me.

But I like those last three best. They're striking.

Thanks for all of your comments!! I appreciate them, I would say that the sketches aren't really important; a lot of what goes into my sketch book should be considered rough ideas that will develope later into paintings or "finished" pieces... I rarely ever finish anything in my sketch book though.

The only pieces that I feel should be considered for criticism are the series I post like, "Slaughter House." (You'll notice that the title of the series are the title of the posts )

I'm sorry that the images don't load >_< I'll have to hve them hosted somewhere else for now I'll just link it.

The Slaughterhouse series that you have presented is quite interesting. As the audience, I was immediately capable of discerning a particular story and feeling a certain set of emotions and feelings associate with what I took to be the intended or alluded story.

It caused me to think of the Gilded Age, when the great cities with their smoking pipes and thunderous sounds of industrialization were called "The Jungle", and in the dream of America, there was a measure of despair and poverty that no man knew or cared to admit but the broken pauper.

Whether or not the set story was supposed to be specifically the Gilded Age or not, I was immediately able to create a story and set of emotions out of the pictures, most notably the 1st Slaughterhouse painting. I believe this is worth mentioning, and points to a successful piece of artwork.

As for the others, they are mostly sketches, rough and unpolished, as you have yourself said. The ones that ought to garner you attention and praise are the three Slaughterhouse paintings.

This was also my favorite piece. Simple but powerful. Like Nominus, I was reminded of the Gilded age.

Redsky Bluemountain is frightening. To me, it screams future-scape. Ugh.

And double posting has always been okie dokie in the art forum, I believe.

I think that's why I like RedSky BlueMountain, it's ominous but surreal; like a far lost place in a far lost time.

I love the first two. Really out of the ordinary, & they're put together very well to create an overall good composition. Nice to see something differant too.
