Cuteness (Potential Dial-Up Warning)

How susceptible to cuteness are you? What do you find cute? How do you feel about the changing role of cuteness in Western (and Chinese/Japanese/Korean) society? Finally, if you'd like, give an example of something that you find cute.


Cuteness (especially that of cats) is one of my greatest weaknesses. It can easily bring me to my knees.

I don't think I'm very susceptible to cuteness, but I do find animals in a state of surprise, shock or extreme happiness or anger to be very cute. I also like weird baby animals, like octopi or squid. They're so tiny. I don't really care how cuteness is changing in my culture.

Baby animals, mostly, are cute.

I don't think that baby humans are particularly cute all the time though, like many baby animals are.

And in some hopeless cases, like with Naked Molerats, or rats in general, I guess, and also flies (baby flies are maggots... not too cute) there isn't much you can do to avoid calling is gross and disgusting instead of cute...

Amusing, but unclever, is what I describe as cute. With such a perspective as that, it is easy not to go to pieces over something cute and let it occupy much time in my mind.
