It's been a while, but wasn't there one point on disk three, when Alexandria is getting blown up, where he rescues her and she hugs the crap out of him? I'd say that was clincher right there. But in case you miss that, the point where she she kisses him in front of the whole bloody kingdom pretty in the final cinema should pretty much clue you in.

Personally, I think FFIX has one of my favorite ending sequences in all of video gaming. It's just so bitter sweet that you'd have to be a stone cold bastard not to get choked up.
