Great Gospel Help!

I'm trying to get Great Gospel. I've read that first you have to talk to a guy in a cave, he'll tell you how many battles you've fought so far and give you a piece of Mythril if the last two digits are the same. Well, he says I've fough 144 times and didn't give me anything except a stupid Bolt Ring. Help, please!

Its something to do with the last number. Just keep going outside fighting a battle go inside and talk then outside and fight then inside and talk thats how i did it. Not sure though :}

It's probably just bad luck that he gave you a bolt ring; you definitely need the last two digits in your battle count to be the same to get the mythril. Just try again with another number like that until he gives you the mythril. Then just go to the weapon makers house, give it to him, and open the cupboard upstairs.

Bingo. Odd numbers = Mythril. Even numbers = Bolt Ring.
