I didn't think this was absurd at all. Pedophiles aren't idiots, they've probably been useing the technology for quite a while now. I didn't find any humor in it either. You guys may think it's stupid or impossible but truth be told, it isn't. The airport example is perfect. They aren't talking about teenagers. They're talking more about five year-olds whose parents bought them DS's. Naïve children that age can wander off without their parents noticing and that's all it takes.

People don't actually use Pictochat, though.

That entire thing was a joke. "OMG! She told him her address! D:" Yeah, he's in their house. >_>

I think it's definitely a legitimate threat, since any time the pictochat may be on, for any reason, it could be a pedophile's lucky day.

But on the other hand, there's probably easier ways to hunt stupid little children.

The bottom line is that you should hold your kid's hand when you're at the mall. If you don't, then pedophiles probably don't need a DS.

Well, obviously, the best way to keep a child safe is to lock them in a suitcase when not in use.

I love how people panic over the most insignifigant things. This is a case study in blowing out of proportion. :rolleyes2

Honestly, thats really REALLY stupid, is there any proof, any case with it? No.

ANY DS USERS HERE KNOW THAT NOONE IS EVER ON PICTOCHAT! honestly, im in a completely hot wifi spot everyday with my ds, and never have i once seen many people on pictochat, if any at all. Mostly its just stupid kids just chatting with their friends in school, or just gamers looking for someone to play against in a game. :P everyday, someone has to cause a hoohah because they are the ignorant person and think anything that connects a child to someone they dont know is dangerous. No one can trace Wii's or DS's, period. Parents...get over yourselves.

Why is this so hard to believe? THEY AREN'T TALKING ABOUT TEENAGERS HERE! They're talking about kindergarten and early elementary students' age group. Kids this old will sit in PictoChat doodling regardless of whether anyone is in there. If a pedophile sees a kid in a crowded area using a DS, they'll try to see if they are PictoChatting and if they are, try to get them. If a parent isn't keeping a watchful eye, the kid could wonder off to where ever the pedophile says "meet me". Quit saying it's absurd; it isn't. You're just very stubborn and ignorant

It IS absurd. Jesus, people are so paranoid! Letting your kid play around on Pictochat is only marginally more dangerous than letting them leave the house at all. Why do people act like being able to communicate with anyone in any way is a one way trip to kidnap-and-rapeville? If you're going to freak out over every tiny little threat to your kids safety you'll have to lock them in a box in the basement or inside of a storage facility or something. Keep an eye on your smurfing kids and chill the hell out.

That's what this report was about. It told parents to watch what their kids were doing. Hell, they said the parents didn't read the instruction manual warning about children talking to strangers. The report was warning parents that, "Hey, Your child's DS can be used in a similar fashion to AOL or Yahoo! Messanger." Children this age probably haven't been warned about the dangers of chat rooms and such. The parents probably don't know kids can chat on DS's either.

They were using the DS as a scapegoat for bad parenting. "They're good parents, but they're completely oblivious about what their children are doing and it's all the DS's fault." Load of crap. These pathetic little alarmist "news" tactics should be outlawed.

"Dumbass parents drop children in blender, blame Cuisinart"

    Natural selection ftw.
