Passive LP Gain

I am playing through XII again, because I know I had a lot more fun in the beginning of the game than later (having completed everything), and I was wondering about how characters gain LP passively when they are not part of your party (i.e., they are not in your party at all, actively or passively).

SPOILERS MAY ACCIDENTALLY OCCUR AFTER HERE

I mean, when Penelo joined my party for the second time, she came with a massive amount of LP, which allowed me to go pretty far on the board. Basch was the same way, along with Ashe. I am uncertain on when these last two gained so much LP, but I think Basch came with all of his after his actual joining of my party, rather than his guest appearance in Nalbina. Ashe's LP came, I believe, when I recieved her into my party in the Bahumaut. All three of these characters had over a thousand LP.

I figured that this was because the fact that my girlfriend and I spent so much time running around the Eastersands/Westersands after having these people either actually in my party (i.e., I could select them to be a part of my active party or I could de-select them and use which other characters I cared to) or as a guest (like Ashe when escaping the palace ambush). However, Balthier and Fran did not share in these extra rewards, despite them being a part of my party, leaving, and re-joining later. So I am confused.

Can anyone shine any light on this?

None of those characters had more than 500 LP when I got them, so I think it's probably based on how much you gain before getting them, so they aren't super behind and stuff.

When do balthier and fran actually leave the party? They leave you, but that's just when they're walking around? It's been a while since I played the first part of the game x.x;

For most final fantasys, they either use a static or relative level for the members who join your party.

If you level X hero up to 50 before getting Y feminine hero, is Y feminine hero level 50 also or a static level, maybe 8... cause you were only thought to gain about 7 levels before meeting her.

XII uses relative leveling for your party members until they are in your party once as a selectable member.


So.. if you level Vaan to level 30 with 3000lp before going to the next event and gaining the characters, then those characters will have 3000LP(however much vaan earned, they will have or close.)

Then once you have them in your party... and if they leave again(not on the menu when you go to the party screen), they will no longer be gaining LP.... it is only before they join your party the first time or when they are in your 6 player party(not just your active 3 player party) that they gain LP.

And you can equip them with gold amulets to double the LP your passive guys gain, while your active guys are equipped with more useful stuff like nihopaloa and thief's cuffs
