Final Fantasy VII was emo before emo was emo

I really think it's more Japan was emo before anybody thought of the fashion sense elsewhere (current, not that 80's thing).

If you look in anime, boys have been wearing long hair that covers their face and makeup and such since forever. And they've had token "depressed" characters as part of the crew for a long time too (and the Great Jubbah knows no matter how justified your depression is, you're automatically emo and ridiculed as of late). America just likes to think they invented emo when it's been around for ages. Just like we pretend we invented the beard we all know it was a joint effort between Germany and Egypt.
