Thread: Final Fantasy VI Advance - Perfect Playthrough

Default Final Fantasy VI Advance - Perfect Playthrough

With the additions and new features of Final Fantasy VI Advance, I figured it would be as good a time as any to give another shot to playing a "perfect game" of Final Fantasy VI, a feat I've tried about a half-dozen times or so in the past, and always failed for one detail or another. As far as I know, no good guide exists for truly playing what I consider to be an absolutely perfect playthrough of this game, and so what I hope to do is remedy that.

I hope this will interest some of you enough to read, or possibly enough even to try it out along with me! I'll do my best not to leave anything out as everyone else seems to love doing causing mass frustration to anyone actually trying to completely master every aspect of this humongous game all at once in one save file.

I suppose I'll begin by explaining exactly what a "Perfect Playthrough" of Final Fantasy VI entails:
    • Playing a "max-stats" style game, and achieving the highest number of stat benefits for each and every character.
    • Acquiring a complete list of every obtainable item in the game.
    • Unlocking all possible enemy formations in the Veldt packs.
    • Every possible rage learned.
    • Every possible lore learned.
    • Every possible esper obtained
    • Every possible spell learned with every character.
    • Acquiring everything necessary to make specific ultra setups for certain characters
    • etc.
Essentially the goal will be to have a save file in which everything you could possibly want or need in the game is available. Your characters will be complete, ultra powerful, and optimally equipped. It will be fun, I promise.

I'm going to cite some references I'll be using in advance, and you should definitely check them out if you want extra reference. They're all fantastic guides.

I'm doing the same thing for FFVI Advance at the moment, It's mainly a "max-stats" playthrough, but I'll probably add a "perfect game" to it along the way. I've just finished Zozo and pick up the first four Espers available at this point in the game and I'm looking for a way back to the Veldt to learn some spell's that Leviathan Mist's "perfect-stats" guide say's is possible. Anyone know how I get there from Zozo?

So far for me it's not been too difficult or frustrating, the only tricky moments came during the battle for Narshe, and that was mainly due to not getting the right combination of enemy's, which you need to get just right to lower the amount of EXP you gain if you can't get to Kefka without a forced battle with the guards, which to me seemed impossible to do. Ultros can also give you a bit of trouble if you don't level Banon up a little before-hand.

It's good to see you'll be using Corundrum's Treasure Checklist guide for it, as it's the only one I've seen that includes the two hidden Tents that you can find on the Phantom Train.

You probably won't need any extra advice with the guides your using, but if you do let me know and I'll try to help you out.

    Good luck!

I actually already finished almost the entire game perfectly, the only mistake I made last time was that I didn't steal the second Kazekiri from Number 128 in the mine cart escape. I know it sounds trivial, but it's essential in creating a Wind-God Cyan, I just didn't feel right without it.

I couldn't get that smurfing Kazekiri either and I usually get it right off the bat. =/

How are you going to distribute the stat boosts amongst your characters exactly?

That's really up to the person playing, personally in my game everyone masters 128 magic, then goes for speed, and if there is any left over, strength. Locke is the only exception being strength -> speed -> magic with him.

Magic is just generally the most useful stat, as it's factored into far more, (and far more useful) damage algorithms.

The question remains that in the perfect playthrough what do you do with Ragnorak?

You take the esper. In Final Fantasy VI Advance you can get unlimited Ragnarok/Illumina(Lightbringer) swords, thanks to the new "save game after you beat Kefka" feature. Ragnarok can be stolen from the third tier of the final boss.

    Necronopticous:
Are you including stealing from every boss possible and having at least one of every item available in the game in this challenge?

Also have you got any tips for Ifrit and Shiva, even with the guides I can't defeat them.

I didn't have any problems with Shiva & Ifrit. Gau with a couple of earrings raging Veil Dancer should take Ifrit out before he even has a chance to bring Shiva into the battle.

And yes, getting all the items is definitely included.
