Default Strategy for Beating the Shield Dragon

While I know the fight is rare, I keep getting ambushed by the smeggin' thing whenever I finish getting my sets of Legendary Weapons from the Tower of Kuza, and each time I never get to finish it off. I was wondering if any of you have any good strategies for killing it?

Hmm, I ran into that thing yesterday. My Faris has the ! Control ability, because I temporarily leveled her as a Beastmaster, and I easily controlled Shield Dragon and made it cast Blaze on itself until it was defeated. I didn't bother trying anything else, though.

Shield dragon isn't too hard. I just ! rapid fire him and cast my strongest black magic, which last time I fought it was thundaga, and it should go down easy

Control is a pretty surefire strategy.
