Default Star Ocean: The Second Story - "invalid combination" and "default weapon"...

What do these terms actually mean?
I've heard that an "invalid combination" is anything that doesn't customize into anything special, and "default weapon" is the strongest weapon you can create with an invalid combination (Claude's "Aura Blade", etc).

Does anyone know anything about this?

I don't remember hearing an emphasis on these terms in my playthroughs of the game.

I would say that the default weapon refers to the weapon a party member is equipped with upon joining your party; I would say that an invalid combination is a nonsensical formula used in the item creation process. It might be in reference to Customization.

Where did you see these terms?
I believe in the power of humanity.

I don't think "default weapon" is the weapon you start with, because this would mean Ashton starts with the very powerful Holy Cross.
