FF has a lot of mythical themes, Bewoulf and Grendel being just one of them.
Beowulf is one of the oldest books still around. It's sure to be full of mythology, which is what FF has always pulled influences from.

The Final Fantasy series- and RPGs in general- borrow names from many different mythologies. I don't think it's surprising at all.
