Yeah Sugar Hill Gang is classic, listen to their 'Rapper's Delight', thats true oldie Hip Hop.

Try listening to Ugly Duckling too (their last two albums). Their not quite as complex as other artists mentioned in this thread but their a good laugh and have a light tone.

Blackalicious is pure skill, he's not controversial, philosophical or exceptionally funny, but listen to Chemical Calisthenics, A To G, and Alphabet Aerobics for speed.

    Jurassic 5
    CunninLynguists
    Herbalizer (Goldrush, The Real Killer)
    Fugees (classic )
SOME Mos Def (Speed Law is a good song)
Nas (One Mic, dont know if its your sort of theme taste but try it anyway)
Outkast (Ms Jackson, Bombs over Baghdad, Xplosion)
    Pharcyde.

    Thats just a few ^^

Well, Rap isn't my thing, but there's some I can tolerate. 2 Pac, and Nas are actually pretty good, imo.

Only thing he has going for him is originality, it doesn't make up for every other aspect in rap though.
To be honest, if it wasn't for Danger Mouse's beats on The Mouse and the Mask, I probably wouldn't have liked it as much. I think his rhymes are pretty witty, but his flow is annoying until you get used to it.

Why haven't anybody mentioned NWA? If you cared anything about gangsta rap / hip hop history you must listen to NWA

"Post good rap songs that aren't about bitches, hoes, drugs, and being gangsta."

Otherwise, I would've suggested Wu Tang Clan (GZA and Ghostface are amazing, and the rest are pretty good MCs too).

If it wasn't for the person who made this topic saying he didn't want to listen to rap or hip hop lyrics that has something to do with Volence, Sex, Drugs, women and all that other good stuff, I would have named a lot of other songs and artist like NWA. Personally, it's insulting. But that doesn't matter. I still can name a few. I seen someone mention Outkast. That's a very good group to listen to. Go for that.

Personally I love Straight Outta Compton as an album, but I don't think it appeals to everyone's tastes.

Well, I've noticed must people on this site are rock and metal heads. So, TRUE rap and hip hop would just fly right pass them and the guy who wants all these songs would miss out. But he didn't want gangsta rap and hip hop in the first place. So, he might as well just skip over this genre...
