    Default [A] Rydia of Mist

Traffic thinks I should make a thread for all of my new drawings aswell as posting them into my gallery....so here goes. I'm hardly one to argue with my pal Traffic (his smilie for added effect)

Anyhow, this is my latest drawing. Rydia of Mist. I've been meaning to draw this one for around half a year, but never could think of a good composition. Not to mention I wasn't sure wether I wanted to draw the young Rydia or the older Rydia. So I thought 'why not do both in the one drawing'. It's like hitting two birds with one stone. So this is what came out. I'm actually quite proud of this one, the colours turned out much nicer than any of my previous drawings and the poses of the characters are damn near perfect in my opinion (which is a change, cause there's usually something little that grinds my nerves). I wanted to give a feeling of movement, so I repeated the curvature throughout the cartoon, in the material/cape and even in older Rydia's mist spell (or water spell, whichever floats your boat).

Drawn with a plain HB pencil and coloured in Photoshop. Check out the rest of my gallery (link in my sig) or I'll chase around the backyard with a steak. Yes, a STEAK not a stake

Attention to even the little things are great, an example being her leg when the shawl (or whatever you call it) comes over her leg & all there is, is a lime green. I love the younger Rydia, she looks like a little pixie or fairy, and her leg structure is spot on. The composition is the best bit about this drawing however, its plain to see that you have talent in this reguard, because it's lovely to look at.

This makes me want too draw! *draws*

Nope, I only ever use the one layer, which happens to be the background layer. I mainly use the brush tool to colour and occasionally the fill tool. I also use the wand, and the dodge tool quite often too. I find layers a bit annoying, to tell you the truth.

Well, this is just about the greatest thing ever. It's so full of motion, and colorful...another great piece.

I was going for motion. I think what really emphasizes the motion is the repetition of the curves and spirals, which can be seen in both Rydia's hair, in their clothing and in the mist/water spell.

It does rock, though Older Rydia looks a little angry, which is a bit odd to me. But other than that, amazing work.

Angry? Heheh, I never really thought of her look as 'angry', more of a 'concentrated' look. But I guess everybody interprets it in their own way
    Thanks for the comment though

This is really great, Slade. I can't really critique this, since I don't see many problems to point out. I just want to know, how did you get the line art to look so clean? I can't seem to do that, and I would like to know how you do that.

Apparently, I have been declared banished.

On most of my drawings I ink them in after I've finished the pencil drawing. This allows me to fix any of the mistakes (or make new ones, which happens alot with ink). Lately I have been just scanning in the pencil drawings and colouring them (because of the fear of ruining the original drawing). I usually touch them up a little in Photoshop before actually applying any colour (this usually just requires me to rub out any smudges and stray lines with the erazer tool), so that would be why they look so clean. I hope that's what you meant by 'clean'?

You weren't talking about the overall 'cleaness' were you. My bad

What was it you were referring to as 'clean'? The type of line I draw?

Very impressive, Slade. Again, like the other drawing, I love the expressions and the dress on young Rydia is very cute. Nice work!

Her expression is like "I'm way too cool for school."
