Unhappy Help, I think I broke my PSone!

Alright, last night I was playing Star Ocean: The Second Story on the second disc; the thing is, that disc of mine is VERY scratchy, so it can load Item Creation animations and stuff literally forever.
This time I got fed up with it and kicked the PSone into the wall, and then it stopped loading properly; I can't seem to start a single game.

It does load the first sequences, but I never reach the menu screens or anything.
I tried unscrewing the console and checked it out, and I think the lense was loose; also, it goes "vrrrrrrrrrrrrr" a lot.

    Advice, anyone?
    Can you repair this?

Well the PS is old, you should not abuse it no matter how mad you are. And well you can buy a used one, or emulate it on the computer. Good luck.

But I've got this chip installed in this one (so I can play American games as well), and it's such a hassle to add it for another console anew.

Well you should have thought about that before you had your tantrum.

You can buy PS2's that already come with a mod chip in them, fairly cheep these days.

Yeah, I know, but when you feel furious you can't think clearly.

    Thanks.
If those guys on Amtech fail, then I'll follow your advice.

The lens in your PS1 is probably going out. It happens a lot with those; basically, if you turn it on its side when you play it, it forces the laser to read out of another part of the lens, which helps in load times.

It's only a temporary solution, though, as that part of the lens will eventually wear out too. Eventually you'll end up SOL, but this can extend the life of your PS1 a bit. It worked on mine.
