That generally stands to how much damage or how many "hits" you can take before you go down.

If I'm in a fair fight, and, you know, there's no gloves, I think my HP is around 6-11.

Of course, if I don't have my guard up, my HP has been known to reach lows of, like, 1. (or is that a critical hit?)

Spoiler Edit I'm just thinking about something that happened earlier today. I understand if this topic is obscure, bizarre, irrelevant, and if HPs are, in reality, something very hard to give a general number to.
