I think that just comes down to you not taking care of it. I got my girlfriend a DS last year, and it's still in perfect condition.

Hmm, those seem a little expensive. But I suppose if you were to store your games on your HDD and then just transfer them over, it'd be alright. I still wouldn't have expected them to be that expensive though.
