Every grid based strategy game can be compared to FFT.
The battle system in disgaea is superior

It is, and it has always been. The battle system in Disgaea 2 is even more streamlined and polished.

Not you. The OP. I agree with your statement. I just don't see any similiarities between the two. I mean, aside from them both being strategy based games and, uh, they both have characters.
Being an SRPG is what makes it similar, or something. About as similar as FF8 and FF7, i suppose.

Yes Disgaea is alot like Final Fantasy Tactics, which in turn is alot like Tactics Ogre, which is alot like Shining Force, which is alot like Fire Emblem.
It's what people in the business call a "genre".
