    Default What is SquareEnix Thinking???

Lately, they're has been a lot of games by SquareEnix that goes way over the line when it comes to love stories. In Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time, the main character really seemed too close to his cousin. Maybe it's just me but Square is losing their mind. Any comments?

    Yuna and Brother ?

I see nothing essentially wrong with it, as Yuna and brother were never raised together and only met each other as adults.

And in some cultures cousins are allowed to marry, it's even common.

I honestly don't care how you look at it. Family marrying or doing anything of the sort is WRONG!

IIRC Fayt Leingod and Sophia Esteed are not related. Plus FaytxMaria is totally the more ideal coupling anyway. ;D

But actually as Renmiri said, marrying your cousins is allowed, legal and even encouraged in other countries such as Japan and China. AFAIK the Chinese do it to maintain family wealth and prestige.

And to think that Final Fantasy was created by the Japanese so expect it'll reflect the culture of the said creator.

But then family marriages are normally arranged. So in the case of Brother and Yuna, maybe Brother needs to see a counselor.

Talk is cheap because supply exceeds demand.

Technically, we're all family, bro. This planet wasn't created with a mess of people wandering around. Cousin-cousin's been the haps for millennia, hermano.
    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.

Anyone who belives even partial parts of the Bible will realise Adam + Eve = all humanity. So yeah, we're all related so just don't think too hard or you won't get married or have another girlfriend again.

Wow, this thread is rapidly getting off-topic...

Anyway, on-topic, I think S-E is stupid with their love stories these days. I mean, in FF4, sure, Cecil and Rosa are an item and all that, and you even have Kain, the man who covets his neighbor's wife.

But still, next to the bizzare interaction between Tidus and Yuna, FF4 seems totally devoid of a love story.

It's bothering me a great deal. When (SPOILER)Aeris died in FF7, I was speechless. And not because she was Cloud's girlfriend or anything, but because you just don't see that sort of thing happening, at least not before FF7.

I think it's good to have the concept of love and intimacy in an RPG, but when it becomes one of the central focuses of the game, I have trouble appreciating that game because of it.

Star Ocean 3 isn't made by S-E, just published. Tri-Ace developed it.

Enix was Tri-Ace's publisher long before they merged, and I'm pretty sure SO3 was completed before the merger even took place. The NA release of SO3 came about a year, maybe two, later than the Japanese release.

actually, genetically - there has been evidence as posted in threads in eoeo on insest topics, that first cousin reproduction is often quite safe. I am no expert, but I have no extremly hot cousins, so I don't need to be

I think the Squee Lovies have always been badly written. They either don't explain enough of it or they just try to exploit it. They should just stop trying.

    >>> Square`s love stories have always been worst..

But I care more about decent gameplay, plot, characters, etc. So the love stuff never bothered me too much..

It is not a love story unless there is a soft core porn scene.
