There are some pretty famous bands from Athens. The B-52s, R.E.M., Of Montreal, Neutral Milk Hotel. There are plenty of other good ones, too.
One of my favorites, that I've seen live, is Cinemechanica. They play some live shows under the names "Mega Band" and "Contraband" where they play Mega Man or Contra on a big screen and perform a rock rendition of the soundtrack. Kickass stuff.
I've seen illScarlett, The Salads, Cities in Dust, and the Marble Index at the local Hamilton club the Underground.
Local Hamilton bands:
Non-Passive Resistance
Bog Master
Porcelain Youth
I think there's a lot of really cool rock/bluesgrass/folk bands that have come up over the years in Australia. Some to name are Mick Hart, Something For Kate, Silverchair, Powderfinger, Augie March, John Butler Trio, Carus, Xavier Rudd, Alex Lloyd, and a few others that escape my mind right now.
"... and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."
A Change Of Pace is from Peoria, Arizona, which is where I am from. Check em out. They're awesome.

There are actually many great Danish bands/artists these days (it didn't always use to be that way, though), and here are some of the ones worth mentioning:
- Mew (Zookeeper's Boy)
- Swan Lee (I Don't Mind)
- Kira and the Kindred Spirits (Losing You)
- Savage Rose (Smile)
- D-A-D (Disneyland after Dark) (Sleeping My Day Away)
- Kashmir (Rocket Brothers) and (The Aftermath)
- Junior Senior (Move Your Feet) and (Can I Get Get Get)
- The Raveonettes (Love in a Trashcan)
- Trentemøller (Evil Dub)
- Blue Foundation (End of Days and Save This Town)
- Oh No Ono (Practical Money Skills for Life and Keeping Warm in Cold Country)
- Sort Sol (Let Your Fingers Do The Walking)
I couldn’t find any of the songs with Savage Rose that I wanted to, so I had to compromise – Anyway, enjoy.
