    Default Nintendo Buys Monolith Soft

    http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q2-2007/042607b.html

Nintendo has now become the controlling stockholder of Monolith Soft. Control of the company responsible for such RPG offerings as the Xenosaga series has been split between Nintendo and Namco-Bandai, with Nintendo taking an 80% share and Namco-Bandai retaining 16%.

Other projects that the Monolith Soft team has worked on include the Baten Kaitos series and Namco x Capcom. Before leaving Squaresoft in 1999, many members of Monolith Soft had been involved in developing Xenogears.

Penelo - "Yeah, you! The one reading this sig at this very moment!"
Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
    Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

This is interesting news. I wonder why Nintendo bought them as they have a questionable track record. None of their games have sold very well but I guess Nintendo would do to them what they did to rare and give all of their games a real nice polish so that we don't get any more mistakes like Xenosaga II.

Monolith Soft is working on Disaster: Day of Crisis for the Wii, which was sort of being broadcasted as a 1st party title back at E3. Perhaps that shows just how long Nintendo has been considering doing that.

They have a questionable track record, that's true. But a fair few of their games got good enough reviews, and they did create the Lithtech engine.

Hmm... I guess that time will have to tell...

The purchase surprised me, but it's pretty cool. I'd like to see what they work on for Nintendo in the future. Also, on a slightly related topic of Nintendo second-parties, wtf has Camelot done in the past three years?

Camelot has actually worked on a number of Nintendo Sports games, like Mario Golf, and such

I'm hoping they'll do another Golden Sun though

Hopefully this means that a Xenosaga or Xenogears title is in the works for the Wii. I could care less about Baten Kaitos because I don't like card battle RPGs.
