Does the new PS2 version have any disadvantages?

I've heard that this small version of PS2 has some drawbacks - that it can't play certain types of games, etc.

I can only assume that it's because, if it doesn't have a hard drive, then games that require one would not be playable.

It can play all games. The only difference is that the online adapter is built in instead of having to buy an attachment for the back.

All I know is that it gets a hell of a lot hotter than the original PS2.

It works fine though, I've left it on for two days (I hated Sigma's fortress, I didn't want to have through it again) and it doesn't overheat, it just gets hot.

But if they ARE overly money-hungry, then they should at least be so smart as to understand that ditching the cooling fan might be disastrous in the long run.

It's fine, it just doesn't play games that require a hard drive. And that just means FFXI -- which is best played on Xbox 360 or PC to be honest.

I'd say just get it, it's nice and slim and if you know how to take care of your possessions then it will not break and no, mine has never overheated. I doubt they would have released it without a cooling fan knowing it'd overheat and break easily.

Just get it if you want a PS2, the old ones are bulky and loud.

It's really a matter of preference. If you're not going to use the hard drive, neither is really better than the other.

I don't know about you, but I keep my PS2 in a safe place and don't throw it around all the time, and I don't try to pick it up when it's running.

I have both. Kinda depends on what you want it for. I have my PS2 Slim in my car. But I like it better than my PS2, because it's a space saver, and the graphics don't look any different. I want mine in my room now =(
