So, uh, In Vagrant Story... What the pants happens at the end.

It's like PARADOX PARADOX PARADOX!!! You see Sydney's gimp, Hardin, die. Then, Sydney in his father's room getting stabbed, then he floats away, but first you had seen him disguised as Ashley. Then ashley is on the street. Then the little blurb appears. It leads one to believe that Ashley is eternal. Also, the phantom pain, is it all just phantomness ?

Ashley was in the street the whole time. Sydney was there with his father at the end, but he got in disguised as Ashley. Putting an end to the family curse. This explains why the game begins with a report of Ashley murdering the Duke and then disappearing...
Ashley, however, had taken over the dark power, probably condemned to the same kind of immortality and power as Sydney had previously held.
