Not really. This gives Diddy and Donkey reason to be pissed at Bowser. But, since Bowser doesn't actually have any introduction to the battle, it doesn't explain how the two apes get involved. If what that one article says is true (there'd be no more than 50 characters) then that's a lot of Target Test Stages to do (250).
I hope you don't have to unlock that much stuff through Target Test Stages if that's the case.
I think it might be five target tests total, with each one being playable by every character. That's a little disappointing, since I enjoyed having each map tailored to a character's special abilities in SSBM, but I suppose there'll at least be a wide variety of ways to tackle each test.
