Is the Knights of the Old Republic franchise dead? My brother believes that, because it's been three years since KotOR II was released and we still haven't heard any news about KotOR III.
Yes.
No.

I hope not, it kicked ass.
T3-M4 Forever!
The games are awesome. I'm in the middle of a quest on the first one but the game keeps freezing up right after critical spoiler on the bad guy ship. SMURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRF YOU GAME! SMURF YOU!

I don't think the series is dead,
since Nancy MacIntyre said that series won't be left behind.
It also believed that BioWare is gonna develop the next installment,
but as of now they're busy with their other projects (Dragon Age and Mass Effect) so we might see KotOR III in the far future after BioWare will finish their projects first.
I guess that makes sense because KotOR II didn't win the same amount of awards as KotOR I and the sequel probaby didn't sell the same amount of copies as the original...so I think Lucas Arts probaby fired Obsidian Entertainment. That's probaby why they're making a Alien RPG project instead KotOR III.

Both became Greatest Hits collections, so they both sold well enough.

I only played the second one.
