final fantasy x-2 help needed

i'm in a special cave in the thunder plains for each wall i need a code and then it opens.
but i don't understand what they're meaning with this :
when calculating codes based on gil remember to use 0 for negative gil amounts.

(i am at wall 7) i need the code to open it

Yeah, I would advise you, when doing that cave, to equip no encounters (Charm Bangle I believe), cos there's all kinds of counters you'll have to run through to complete there. This line says that if you spent gil in a battle (ie threw it with Spare Change I think) and therefore have an overall negative gil count from that battle, it says use 0.

Its very confusing, and the codes are never the same... Writing stuff down as well as equiping no encounters will help a lot.

Yeah when i did that i had charm bangle equipped and luckily didnt spend/throw any gil. You'll really need a pen and paper at hand when doing this, i would of found it impossible otherwise.
