Lots of devices can act as radio receivers sometimes. If you're in the right location, anything from a washing machine to a pair of dentures in a jar can pick up certain radio waves and turn them into sound. Like a really simple crystal radio set.
I'd say your MP3 player is just doing the same - when it's turned on, it's picking up either a local Chinese-language radio station, or maybe an international station being broadcast on short-wave.
