There is the Windows XP patch, which fixes the Chocobo Race crash that Windows XP encounters.
The only solution I've been able to find to the Cosmo Canyon crash is to find a nice helpful person to move the game past the freeze point. I have helped nearly a dozen people on this forum get through that trouble, unfortunately, I am no longer able to do so. Some time ago, I had lost my Disc 1 of FFVII. Fortunately, I had a virtual disc backup, so it did not hamper my play or helping too much. Unfortunately, I lost that backup when my computer got infected by a virus (still working recovery, but unless I can get that Virtual Disc off without it being infected, I'm out of luck). I have been wanted to pick up a new copy on Amazon.com, but, since I am unaware why I was immune to that problem in the first place, I'm afraid that buying a new version will simply stick me with the crash that I have bypassed so many times. It's frustrating.
Does anyone know precisely what triggers the Cosmo Canyon crash? Is it related to the version of the game, the operating system, or what? I have (had) the Eidos Platinum Edition of the game, but am unsure if that relates in any way to my immunity to the glitch. If only we could isolate what causes it, we could bypass it for everyone...
In other news, does anyone know of any problems with running the computer version of FFVII on Windows Vista?
