I think this battle comes down to just sheer numbers.
Look at all the different sub-genre's of rock. and then rap.
To name a few
Rock:

• Alt Rock
• Metal
• Death Metal
• Nu-Metal
• Classic Rock
• Alternative
• Progressive
• Industrial
• Punk
• Emo
• Screamo
• Indie

Rap:

• Rap
• Hip Hop
• R&B

Again, just to name a few.
So I'm thinking rock would win, just because of the difference in numbers of people on either side of the battle.
