How fast is your internet connection?

Currently I have some stupid student broadband called MCW, it's supposed to be 1 meg but runs at about 250kb (dunno about the whole capitalisation of the 'b', but a quarter of 1 meg ). I'm moving in less than a week and will be getting the amazing Be broadband, so 24 meg

64k is the maximum for a single line dialup, not 52.

Also, my internet connection is technically about 16Mbps, but it's shared and throttled. QoS ensures :skull::skull::skull::skull: transfer rates if I do anything but browse the web.

I think that it is supposed to be 1 Megabit, while you're getting 250 kiloByte. Obviously, they've lied to you. With a Byte being 8 bits, you must have a 2 Megabit connection in order to get the 250kB/s.

Hmm... is it? It'd seem logical, but I haven't ever seen a 64k modem. 52ks on the other hand are everywhere.*shrug*

I got 74kB , and you can take of the 20% bandwidth cap if you want, if your OS is windows

ADDED:
1.Log on as "Administrator".

2. Run - gpedit.msc

3. Expand the "Local Computer Policy" branch

4. Then expand the "Administrative Templates" branch

5. Expand the "Network" branch

6. Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in left pane.

7. In the right window pane double-click the "Limit Reservable Bandwidth" setting

8. On the settings tab check the "Enabled" item

9. Change "Bandwidth limit %" to read 0

10. Then go to your Network connections Start=>Connect to=>Show All Connections and
right-click on your connection. Then under the General or the Networking tab,
(where it lists your protocols) make sure QoS packet scheduler is enabled.

I think that site shows the current speeds coz my max speeds are 1024kbps/256kbps!!!

That site is a tester of your current speed, and your current speed CAN be decreased by downloading other files simultaneously. Also, choosing a server that isn't recommended may slightly decrease your speed.

Basically close down your illegal torrenting while you do it.
