Default Threesixty? Moar like Three*sux*ty, amirite?

Ok that was lame. And I actually love 360's, I'll probably pick one up in the future.

    But, article.

    Discuss.

edit: The first link's a blog (I think), so take it with a grain of salt. This one's probably a little more reliable.

My 360 broke twice, both got replaced for free by Microsoft. Go into an IGN forum. There are numerous amounts of peoples' 360s breaking.

Dang, I thought everyone was just exaggerating. Even so, I still want one. I just hope it won't die on me.

Well, obviously there aren't going to be people posting anywhere saying "Just letting you know, internet, my 360 works fine." Only people who have them break are going to bring it up. But yeah. The failure rate is way too high. Mine's a POS, for sure. I hope when it eventually breaks I get a red ring of death so it's a free repair. The disc drive has been making horrible grinding noises for a year now.

But it's still got the best selection of games this generation (excluding handhelds, anyway). Of course, the year head start doesn't hurt. Seems like Microsoft is paying for that head start with a lot of system fixin'.

mine was fine, it was a first run machine and worked ok...but then i lent it to my brother in law and he ran it in a closed space with no ventilation while playing oblivion for hours at a time...i started getting freezes/crashes, red rings....etc.

anyway yeah....it might still have been fine were it not for his mistreatment of the hardware...but now i have a big paperweight since it's passed its warranty.

Be, very, very careful. Do no turn the 360 on it's side no matter WHAT if there's a disc in the tray, you will RUIN the game and your 360. I broke 2 cds, and my 360 is a noisemaker now.

Oh-yeah, btw once I realized my 360 wasn't going to shut-up because of all the times I turned it over while a CD was in it I stuck a soda tab halfway in the CD tray when it was closed to push it away from whatever the hell it grinds up against, and it shut-up. When my brother tripped over the cord and I had the soda tab in it, the CD inside wasn't damaged at all and my 360 literally did a 360 as it was falling to the ground. So yeah, if you don't mind a soda tab sticking out of your 360 but you have it in an area where it's gonna fall over I'd recommend it.

I was more amazed over MS not giving a one year warranty on their product in the first place. That's basically saying "hey guys, we guarantee you our $400 product will last at least 90 days!" What a compelling argument!

isn't that because yours would have been imported though?

that's not a microsoft thing, that's an international trade thing

The original warranty was apparently just for 90 days. They extended that to a year. They've done more than that, I think; I'm pretty sure launch day consoles would be fixed for free regardless of when they broke. It's probably on their site. I remember being annoyed because I got mine in January, meaning it didn't have a 2005 manufacture date, and thus couldn't be repaired for free. And now there's the three year thing if you get the red ring of death.

While Xbox 360's lineup actually does interest me, this is exactly the reason why I'm waiting on getting one (same goes for PS3). First generation releases are seldom stable enough for me to drop a significant portion of my funds on them.
