Did anyone ever name Red "Nanaki" on purpose?

I always do that.

After my first game, it just seemed like the right thing to do.

Plus its funny in the dialogue at Cosmo Canyon when the guy outside says to Cloud "Thanks for bringing Nanaki home" and Cloud says "Who's Nanaki?" and then the guy replies with "Who's Nanaki? Nanaki is Nanaki!"

I still get a chuckle out of that.. haha.

Absolutely... and also when he says 'I am Nanaki, also known as Nanaki' i you choose him when you fight Palmer in Rocket Town.

yup me too. a more interesting question would be who didn't rename Red to Nanaki after their first play through

True, true... Though RatCatMoo and Gay Lion are fun as well.

If you want even more fun in the game, name all of the playable characters after any of the proganoists, with Sephiroth obviously producing the best results. Par exampler;

Sephiroth: Sephiroth... Don't listen to him... Close your ears! Close your eyes!

Sephiroth: What's wrong, Sephiroth? I'm not affected by it. ...I wasn't paying attention
to him.

Sephiroth: All that talk of Hojo constructing you is a lie. Don't we have our
memories together? Being kids together, starlit night...

Sephiroth: Ha, ha, ha... Sephirtoh... Why are you so worried and scared by those
words? Hmm... Shall I show everyone here what's in your heart? Ha, ha, ha...

Sephiroth: ...Sephiroth? Is Sephiroth right?

Sephiroth: Sephiroth...

I named Cloud Sephiroth one time. That was a source of much confusion...
