Thirteen thousand US dollars for a second-hand 'new' Mini seems grossly excessive, too. When they first came out, the top model sold for about $30,000 in my country, roughly $16000 US.
But then, I suppose it makes sense for them to cost a bit more in the US, for various reasons.
Anyway, with the new Mini you're paying a lot for image and name. There are plenty of equivalent cars you can get for a much lower price. Not meaning to denigrate the Mini here, just being realistic. Any serious desire for a Mini could be satiated by purchasing an old Mini. Extremely cheap, very efficient, much cheaper to ensure. Not exactly a performance car, but they get the job done.
I just checked a currency exchange rate calculator and $30,000 NZ dollar translates to roughly $24,000 US dollars. Which sounds about right for a Mini Cooper S Class. $16,000 doesn't sound anywhere near right. And I have a hard time believing that there would be a nearly 8,000 difference in car price from one country to another.
Anyway, the reason people buy a mini is because it's so damn cute. The older minis are not "so damn cute" but merely, "kinda cute".
Did they steal all your pocky? :[
All of my pocky, yan yan, Hello Panda, Collon, spring rolls, dim sum, and some sort of trail mix that I love to eat
When I say 'used' I really mean like 1, 2 years old. I drove a 2003 model and driving a 2005 or 2006 model would be a better thing to happen.
Depreciation of vehicles being the way it is, I could've easily said 'not new car' and would get across the same message I need.
For example assuming the 50% depreciation of car 'rule', a 30 000 mini would cost me 15 000$ or less, or something (if I didn't buy from a dealer).
Anyway, I won't be getting a mini anyway. I hope we get a Pontiac.
Firebird?
Firebirds are sexy :] Go for the red~!
Then again, they're not that comfy. And the back is super cramped. My ex went through two while we were dating and I actually always pffed at him because he couldn't just get a normal car and save his money for what he actually needed.![]()

Indeed, insurance is a bonus AND! you don't need to get the car taxed if it is a 'classic'. That's positively nifty. Mini Coopers really aren't that great, maybe if you were a single girl, you might enjoy having one. Other than that, mini coopers really aren't exciting.
Buy a bicycle.

Sephiro this here.
No man should drive a Mini.
With my feet, silly.
