I'm trying to run Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and keep getting an error. When I run the "analyze system", the game tells me I can run it:





But when I actually try, the game attempts to load, my screen goes black, then I am taken back to my desktop and this:





What the pop-tart is OpenGL? Do I have to download some file or driver or something? The game is pretty old, so I thought I could run it, but bah. Crap like this is why I plan on kidnapping o_O and forcing him to sit in my closet and answer all my questions.

Update your graphics card drivers would be a good thing to try.

You see, I'm challenged when it comes to computers, so I don't know how to do such a thing. Do I have to buy a new card, then? I don't even know where graphics cards go. I'd probably end up rubbing one against my monitor in hopes it works.

Right click on "My Computer" > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager > Display adapters. Tell us what it says under that and we'll point you in the right direction.

I think Odaisé has hit the nail on the head.

It's a problem with OpenGL, so I suggest you check out the DLLs (if they exist)

Try updating your video card drivers first. To find out what sort of drivers you need, go to Start > Run, and type "dxdiag". You find your card or chip listed beside "Display adapter", most likely.

If neither that nor the DLLs fix the problem try doing the same with <a href="http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?sdl">sdl.dll</a>.

Alrighty, I took my old .dll's and shoved them in a new folder and replaced them with newly downloaded ones. Then I started working on my driver stuff. According to the run-dxdiag I'm using 3dfx Voodoo. I went into the Troubleshoot and found my card under their list of unsupported Cards.

Windows 2000 and XP
· 3dfx Voodoo 3
· 3dfx Voodoo 4/5 (VSA 100)
· Matrox G200
· S3 Savage 2000

So...I guess my card is older than dirt or something. They say if I tweak it enough and get lots of Drivers, I can get it to work, but that the performance will be creakier than Bush's wife. Boo, how can I run Dungeon Siege flawlessly and not some crappy game from 2002. The Quake III Engine is on my list of things I spit on.

There's an enormous list under Supported Cards. I have no idea which I should get or anything. Is there some sort of ultra, gaming Video Card that would just take care of all this for me?


If this helps, I did what Yamaneko asked as well. I couldn't find Hardware under the My Computer properties, so who knows if I'm doing it right or what. I did find something like that by right-clicking on my specific C:.

In that screenshot, you did what Yams said on the C:\ drive icon, not My Computer

And 3dfx cards are pretty outdated - the company went under some time ago.

I know, but I couldn't find any Hardware tabs or buttons by right-clicking on My Computer > Properties . It just has shortcut info and a General tab that has nothing to click on. Does that mean what I tried digging up is not helpful at all? I feel like I should beat myself up or something.

My video card company doesn't even exist anymore xD? God, I'm even more ancient in the realm of PC than I thought.

Welp, if everything is this much fuss, then I will have to wait for an upgrade and drop it until then. Thanks for the great help and replies, folks!

there should be a my computer icon on the start menu right click that.
also tell us what kind of computer your running and the year you got it.

do what the attachment says

display drivers.jpg
then click the plus sign next to display adapters (should be third down)
that should say the current type of driver (in my case intel 82865g graphics controller) right click it and hit update driver it will ask if it can use windows update to check
select yes, this time only
select internet > then hit next
select install software automatically
then it will look on the internet for it
if it finds one install it
if not ill tell you how to look at driver sites

Hot damn, you are running 128MB RAM, a 900MHz processor and a Voodoo card? XD

Oh yeah, and what they said, OpenGL (which makes the graphics run, in a really basic term). Usually your graphic card drivers will help out with all that.

Except his card is unsupported, so it's not going to work, even with new drivers. The card's old enough that the odds are he already has the lastest drivers.

People seem to have had mixed results with the WickedGL driver package, but the performance still seems to be pretty average. A few accounts report ok performance with visual effects turned off. If you want to try it, the link is <a href="http://www.3dfxzone.it/dir/3dfx/wickedgl/index.php">here</a>.
