I've decided to read the following books this summer (so far I've read the first one on the list):

    - The Hobbit - Tolkien
    - Lord of the Rings - Tolkien
    - The Fall of the King - Johannes V. Jensen
    - ... and if I have the time: Harry Potter 7.

And since I've already read 15 of them, I'm not going above and beyond the call of duty to read the other 5. I'm trying to read most of Charles Dickens' works this summer just for enjoyment. So far I've read Hard Times, Bleak House, and Oliver Twist. Hard Times was byfar the best.
I read The Scarlet Letter during the school year. It was pretty awful, so dry and boring.

    My advice? Sparknote it.

Just recently, I re-discovered how much I love reading. I haven't read as a hobby since 2nd grade. Right now I'm catching up on the Harry Potter series (5th, which is my favorite so far) and I'm reading Memoirs of a Geisha.

I don't have assigned summer reading this year, but the summer before I took AP English I had to read Jane Eyre and Wide Sargasso Sea. WSS is kind of a different take on JE and was pretty interesting, but JE itself was really, really boring (at least to me...every other girl I know who's read it loves it).
