@Xurts; I think we have to agree to disagree. Too busy to argue atm.
But also remember how old Vivi is. He's a child and yet he can stand up for himself. I dont remember FFVIII that well, so I cant think of any examples, but I thought Squall was a bit pathetic at times. He was affected by losing sis for way too long. Vivi's situation is worse, and he has better excuses - his age, his complete lack of knowledge. Squall has grown up but he still cant recover.
"They said this day would never come. They said our sights were set too high. They said this country was too divided, too disillusioned to ever come around a common purpose. But on this January night, at this defining moment in history, you have done what the cynics said we couldn't do." - Barack Obama.

No, Vivi can't stand up for himself. The only time he does is against Black Waltz 2, and, considering the situation, it wasn't surprising that he did. Every other time he lets people push him around.
Squall was already emotionally detached before Ellone left, and when she did it just made his detachment worse. I'll admit, it does get annoying at times, but thankfully Rinoa snaps him out of it. What he does in the game more than makes up for his attitude. Vivi, on the other hand, doesn't do much and just tags along the whole time.
