This map might help. I hope the site allows direct links like this, 'cause this map is a pretty good guide, if I remember correctly.

One tip - when you're trying to find the key, don't worry about following the line-of-sight of the various workers. Ignore them, and just dig in the right spot

The map tells LIES to me. I found the potion where it says the key is. I'm assuming the key is somewhere up on the higher ground. However, it doesn't matter if I ask them to look for normal or good treasure they always look to this one point on the lower ground that has NO treasure at all there. It is annoying. *sigh*
