I don't know about a romantic link between Zargabaath and Drace, they just don't seem suited. Whilst Drace openly speaks against Vayne and makes it no secret that she thinks him an unwise choice of leader, Zargabaath is very differant. He may not support Vayne, but he certainly dosn't voice his concerns, and follows his orders without question.
I doubt that Drace would have the tolerance for such a man. She likey sees him as a sniveling lap-dog, and he sees her as unwise for protesting as she does.
However, the do share ideals, and morally are on the same 'side', so they are sort of allies.

I've watched the scene several times, when Gabranth said "Judge Zecht!" it definately sounded like resent, mostly because he was in his way. But Zecht's "It's been too long, Gabranth..." sounded more like a hint of friendship.

Also, I think Drace and Zargabaath were alot a like. The only difference is that Drace couldn't hold her toungue and openly went against Vayne in a moment of outrage.

I don't think Zargabaath didn't rebel not because he's a lap dog, or simply afraid, I believe he did his duties because he took an oath. "A Judge's duty is to the law" as Ghis said. His duty to protect Arcadia seemed to supercede his disgruntlement. You can hear his remorse such as the line when leaving Bur-Omisace in the Alexander "The Empire's debts grow legion."

The reason why I think they had a romantic link was because of Zargabaath's outburst asking Vayne to reconsider, it seemed very out of character for him and I think his emotions caused him to do that.

That being said I think all of the judges would have potentially good backstories to elaborate on. For such a well-crafted character Drace had relatively little time on screen, i'd like to see more of her story.

If anything I got the sense that Drace had the closest connection to Gabranth. They shared a lot, especially their regard for Larsa. And he (SPOILER)carries out her sentence only upon her insistence.

Having said that, Zargabaath seemed the most sensible of the Judge Magisters. He was loyal to the Empire, but not blind in his loyalty. He had reservations about Imperial methods, but kept them mostly to himself. He fought against his foes with all his strength, but was willing (SPOILER)to sacrifice himself to save innocent civilians. He reminds me of the old-school honorable villains like Rubicant or (forgive the Star Wars allusion) Captain Needa.

I certainly wish the Judge Magisters had been more developed. I always like the foes of the heroes to be given a lot of complexity.

I agree with what you said about Zargabaath being sensible ect. Hes not blindly loyal, yet knows (unlink Drace) when to hold his tounge.

I'll just point out that this wasn't the only time she openly vioced her reservations about Vayne. When speaking to Bergen (i belive it was the first scene that we saw Drace in), she does not hide her doubts. Even Zargabaath knew that this was unwise, and subtly tries to hush her towards the end of the scene.

He reminds me of the old-school honorable villains like Rubicant or (forgive the Star Wars allusion) Captain Needa.

I hadn't noticed the connection, but, in a way, its quite true. To be honest, i never really saw Zargabaath as much of a villan. But mabye that was because he was voiced by Simon Templeman, who is prehaps one of my favorite voice actors of all time. In Legacy of Kain, he played the Bastered of a character, Kain, and i always expected him to do somthing really evil, but it never came, so in my mind he may as well have been a goodie.

A prequal based around the judges would be pretty similar to FFVII: BC, but instead of the turks, it would be centered around the Judge Magisters. SE should totally make this game.

I consider honorable villains people of integrity who just happen to work for the wrong side and are generally unaware of how evil their masters truly are. Beatrix would be another good example.

The only Judge Magister I'd like to see less of is Bergen. I have nothing nice to say about him.

Wow, BG-57, i can honestly say that those two words suddenly made you just that much more awesome in my book Damn, where did Legacy of Kain go....

*cough* Anyway! Yes, Bergon was easily my least favorite of the Judge Magisters, his story completly uninterested me. Along with Ghis, he is one of the two Juge Magisters that i usually forget about, despite the fact that you had to fight both of these two early on, and others get less screen time. Odd that..

Still, mabye a prequal could develop them more...

PS: Without giving any story spoilers, could anyone tell me if Zargabaath is in Reverant Wings at all?

Dunno, I guess all the Soul Reaver sequels exhausted the possibilties. Now if only we could get Tony Jay to do voice acting in a FF. He'd make a great Garland for FFIX. Or Emperor Gramis for that matter.

Funny thing about LOK though is my Dad once overheard me playing and asked if the hero was Santa Claus because it sounded like he was shouting 'Merry Christmas!'

Honestly, I don't think we'll ever see a Judge Magister prequel unless someone writes a fanfic.

I'm not sure about RW, but he's the only one (SPOILER)who could be in it.

I'm afraid that Tony Jay, voice of the elder god, died last year. A true loss, would make a LoK sequal without just a little dull.

He would have made a great FF villian though.

So far a great strength of the Ivalice storyline is that it's expandable, just like the Suikoden series. Most FF's have you eventually covering the whole planet, so there's not much geography left to explore in sequels or prequels.

I'm sorry to hear about Tony Jay. But at least we'll always have Mortanius/William the Just/Elder God/Frollo/Asylum Warden.

That was a point that i was going to make actually- games that have you exploring the entire planet leave little material for a sequal, seeing as you have been to all loctions (Golden Sun comes to mind). But in FFXII, you only explore Dalmasca, Nabrdia and Archadia (as well as a few Jadgs). There is still an entire world out there for other games in the series to explore. Rozzaria, more of Arcadia, and beyond.

Oh, wow, were they all voiced by Tony Jay? I knew about Mortanius, but the Elder god was really his primary role in LoK, i think- its the one every one remembers him from. Plus, he made a pretty great Shear Kaan in the Jungle Book 2
