I just bought the DS remake and was really pleased to see different spell levels, as opposed to standard MP.

However, why didn't they do the same with all the FF1 remakes, except for Origins? Why did they convert FF1's system to MP in the GBA and PSP remake?

Having played D&D, one of my favorite aspects of the original is the fact it has so many similarities. I'm just glad the third kept this feature intact.
