This is a personal pet peeve of mine. I hate it when animals or monsters join the party and, literally, do nothing to advance the plot. Why are they in the party? I want to play as a group of humans that I can relate to, and not play as some horrible thing like Quina. I preferred to disallow Quina from joining the party as long as possible because they story made more sense without it.

This is a valid point. Many stories from the company revolve around teenagers. Final Fantasy IV had the youngest and oldest cast of characters, but the main character, Cecil, was in his early twenties. It will be interesting to see how Final Fantasy IV the After: Tsuki no Kikan is perceived by the public because of its aged cast.
