EDIT: this still won't work, I've waited for ages and even done seed tests and it still won't work. I don't have any earlier save files.

If you ask really nicely I can reinstall FF8, you can send me the file, and I'll try playing past that point for you. Like I say, you'll have to ask really nicely.
