Default So then I said to the guy 'That's not my car, that's my wife!'

Given that my last thread related to jokes was a slight failure, I hope I fare better with this one.

What's the best stand-up show you've seen? I've never really seen that much stand-up to be honest and although I'd love to see one in person, I've currently had to settle for DVDs or showings on television. I really enjoyed Peter Kay's stand up in 2003-4 before it got quoted to death, but since then I've become quite fond of Bill Bailey, Jack Dee and Ricky Gervais' stand up shows. Bill Bailey's Part Troll in particularly was fantastic.

I've seen Josh Blue live (that Cerebral Palsy guy who won Last Comic Standing), and I've been to the Laugh Factory in New York City and saw some guys who had Comedy Central specials, and that's it for live. No stand-up show compares, however, to Eddie Murphy's Raw. I've never laughed so hard in my life.

Peter Kay and Ricky Gervais are good stand ups, even though I don't really watch their programming, particularly not anything Gervais is involved in; I never really got The Office, and thought Extras was terribly overrated, at best (The Les Dennis episode was funny, though)

My friends thought I wouldn't 'get' Kay's Northern humour (as I am originally from down South); it was terribly regionalist of them.

My very favourite stand-up comedian is Billy Connoly, especially when he's telling a story, then goes of onto an equally funny tangent, and then finally gets round to the original story to finish!

Seen in person? Adam Hills or Rhys Darby are so far the best by far.

Seen on TV? I've seen massive amounts of standup as I really enjoy it, and I'd have to say the best comedians out there are...

    1. Ben Bailey. Not Bill Bailey - Ben Bailey! He's awesome and relatively unknown compared to some of the big names out there. Incredible voice for it, too.
    2. Adam Hills. His uplifting style of comedy is almost entirely unique in today's world, and he's just so good at improv.
    3. Raybon Kan. I wished I could see his stuff again but I couldn't find it anywhere and this made me a sad chocobo for many years. But just now I searched and found some on Youtube. I can't check it out 'cause I'm at work right now but yeah, hopefully it's still good!
    4. Tony Woods. Funny voice. The guy just makes me laugh with the stuff he comes up with.
    5. Pablo Fransisco. Movie Voice Guy!
    6. Jeremy Hotz. I don't usually like 'miserable' but this guy does it in such an overdone way that it's great. I love it.

I can't tell you the names of any specific shows, but I can tell you my favourite stand-up comedians if that count?

    (Random order:

    - Pablo Francisco
    - Ellen DeGeneres
    - Dave Chapelle
    - Anders "Anden" Matthesen
    - Mick Øgendahl
    - Rune Klan

.. I can't think of more at the moment.

My list is way too long to name them all. Also, I can't even think of them all at once. However, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Daniel Tosh yet.

Speaking of Daniel Tosh, I have a signed apology from him. On my CD, after the show, he wrote, "CJ, I'm so sorry. Daniel Tosh." I never did figure out why he was apologizing, but I have to assume he thought he bombed. He didn't bomb. He was hilarious.

I just realised that Raybon Kan isn't as funny as he used to be when he laughed at his own (good) jokes.

I think Comedy Central still does Friday Night Standup.

My favorite act I've ever seen live is the only one I've ever seen live, by the Upright Citizens Brigade. Technically it was improv sketch comedy and not stand-up but whatever.

Other than that, Demetri Martin rules over my comedy juices with an iron fist.

I am not a big fan of stand up comedy. I prefer sketch comedy/group improv. I go to Second City for that

I've not seen anything live, but the following people are my heroes:
Pablo Fransisco (Arnold Schwarzenegger is... Little Tortilla Boy)
Gilbert Gottfried (Ah, she must be full)
George Carlin (I'm a modern man)
Mitch Hedberg (I can't tell you what hotel I'm staying at, but I can tell you there are two trees involved)
    Jim Gaffigan (Hot pockets)
Steven Lynch (Special Fred, momma dropped him on his head)

    Among others.
