I saw it Friday morning, and I have to agree. The first few scenes are kind of like: Well, we wrote the script.....dammit, we didn't use any zombie dogs.....lets write a new really weird scene and put them here. Not that those scenes were bad, just kind of odd. But after that, I rather enjoyed the movie. It did the survival horror aspect quite well.
Resident Evil fanboys will do their usual mindless chastising of this movie, 99% of it being nonsense. The concept of the third one was interesting, and the grand scope that they used for some of the scenes was pretty sweet.
It's not going to win any awards, and it's a bit more lacking in plot than the first two until the very end, but it has more then enough action and horror scenes to make up for it. I would recommend it.
The one thing I don't get is how was a simple metal grated fence holding back probably a few thousand zombies?
