I went to see it last night. I hadn't seen the previous three, (SPOILER)so the ending confused me a bit, as it turns out Saw 3 and 4 overlap chronologically.
I found it to be unnecessarily gruesome, and yet fairly awesome.
The fourth came out yesterday, which is when I went to see it. I enjoyed it, especially the twist that (SPOILER)Saw III and Saw IV ran simultaneously with eachother. I thought the test on Rigg was very similar to Detective Matthew's test in Saw II, as he just had to let people save themselves rather than intervene.
I enjoyed it, and there is going to be a fifth and a sixth. I though this one was definitely the most gross, and several parts made me CRINGE and look away, which I didn't do in any of the previous 3. Perhaps it was overly gross, but the story line alone keeps me interested in the movies.
DEAR GOD JIGSAW HAS A BACKSTORY! HES AWSOMER NOW! WAHOOO!!!
THE TRAPS WERENT "GORY AND DUMB DUMB"....They sort of had a purpose...
Acting wasnt TERRIBLE....oh and it was well directed!
"When you do things right, people won't notice you've done anything at all.""
-God-
I thought it was well done and quite clever. I'm just thankful it wasn't stupidly hard to follow for someone who hasn't seen Saw III and only read the Wikipedia synopsis prior to seeing it.
Probably the only part of the movie with truly unnecessary violence would be (SPOILER)in the beginning when they perform the autopsy on Jigsaw. Guess they had to get the audience grossed out early. Other than that, I didn't find anything quite as brutal as anything from the Hostel series. I guess if you didn't want to be grossed out, you wouldn't have gone to see Saw IV (of all things), and instead would have seen The Heartbreak Kid or something.
Anyone know where I can watch it online?
It was pretty gross.
But what else would you expect?
I thought it was a very interesting watch. Now I just need to watch I and III. =o
Ah just watched it online.
You need to see 3 to kinda get whats going on in this one
And the only reference to 2 was the detective who we haven't seen since that movie.
But awesome torture scenes.
(SPOILER)We saw Detective Matthews in Saw III.
'twas awesome. xD
There's nothing worse/better than the syringe pit scene from Saw II though. *cringe*
It was so SO bad.
Like, not even, "hahahah this is so bad, it's fantastic" sort of bad. Just plain craptastic. Obviously you don't go into a movie like Saw expecting great filmmaking or anything. But at least it should be amusing in its badness. =/
I expect saw movies to give me subjective existential meaning in my life. The fourth one just confused the bejeezus out of me. I didn't know who was what, and wikipedia later becomes confusing as hell because I think they either mixed up the characters in key scenes, or I didn't remember the movie properly, thus making me confused even more.
Also the (SPOILER) guy with the guns who kidnapped Detective Matthews and another Detective who briefly existed in the 2nd Saw [which I didn't know until I read the wikipedia article] didn't make sense to me. Even when I read the wikipedia article and found he was Art the lawyer, and remembered the guy had a scare on his mouth, I was still confused as hell.
I think I might watch saw 3 again and then consider watching Saw 4 yet again.
And in 2009 when the 5th one comes out I'm watching all 4 and bringing my notebook to the movie. Ugh.
I rewatched Saw 3 after and it made much more sense.
What was confusing about IV?
