FFII is easilly my favorite, though IX and XII are close seconds.
FF IX is probably my fave of all time. It was my first one to ever play, and the storyline and characters just drew me in so much. And I'm still amazed each time i watch the battle between Bahamut and Alexander. XD
Wow it's kind of suprising to see a lot of people say IX, I usually see more hate then love for it.
and my favorite is IX btw, I just loved the characters,story and imo had the best soundtrack out of all of the FF's.
They are all amazing, but VII was the first i played so that has to be my fav, and it has the best sountrack out of all of them!!

Final Fantasy Tactics blows most other FF games completely out of the water.

X Is the best in my opinion, the story is much more involving than the others.
Very emotional, really yanks at ye olde heart strings.
Oh and FF tactics War of the lions is pretty awesome at the moment, liking this one very much!
I will say that FFVI's soundtrack beats the crap out of any in the series on a daily basis, but VII does have one of the best soundtracks in the series. Kudos to you for thinking so, since I've seen more than a few people on here crap all over it simply because the quality of the midi isn't what it was in the later games. I think a lot of the more hardcore, 'true' Final Fantasy fans love FFIX. And they're the ones who are on the forums most (excluding FFVII, VIII and X fanboys)

VI, IX, X and Tactics
The more I play FF1, the more I find myself wondering if it should be hard to pick between it and 7.
Aww go on then, FF7. Still.
On the subject of soundtracks, people: FF soundtracks are truly awesome, but in comparison to Guilty Gear, smurf Final Fantasy. smurf it up its predominantly synthesised ass. This only emphasises how much I love Guilty Gear music. FF music is very good.
